MMD Sneak Peak 2
As I'm wrapping up the final pieces for my show this week, I thought I'd just post little sneak peeks of some of the finished art. I want there to be a few surprises opening night. I will say that this one definitely falls under the "Mayhem" part of the show, sprinkled with a little doom. And it involves guinea pigs. Mean ones.

Monsters, Mayhem and Doom! opens this Saturday, June 27th at Oh No! Doom from 6pm-10pm. I hope to see you there!

p.s.- I should have at least one more sneak peak tomorrow!

Monsters, Mayhem & Doom!, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

Opening night is Saturday, June 27th, 2009 from 6pm to 10pm

Please join OhNo!Doom in welcoming Chicago artist Jason Chalker, aka Manly Art. Jason is an illustrator, graphic designer and was also an animator on Richard Linklater's feature film A Scanner Darkly.

Come see how Mr. Chalker transforms Oh No! Doom’s gallery into a precocious pulp paradise of monstrous, maniacal and all-new manly art.

You WILL have a good time and you WILL be manlier from the experience. Don’t worry ladies... you won’t be manlier, you’ll just have a greater appreciation of all things manly.

Child of Doom, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

Here's the final painting based on the sketch I posted previously. I used a reference photo I shot downtown (check the location tag to see where) for the setting to give it some atmosphere. This is the first time I've ever painted buildings, so it was a fun challenge. I'm pretty happy with how it came out overall.

15"x20" Acrylic on illustration board.

Bloodfest Sevens 2009, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

Well, It's that time of year again. Here's this years t-shirt design for the annual Huns RFC Bloodfest Sevens tournament in Austin, TX. This year I decided to take a little break from the rugby pin-up girls and show the true nature of rugby. To quote my dad... "I went to a fight the other day and a rugby game broke out.".

The Martian Girl, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

Here's another mini-painting for my show at Oh No! Doom. I've finally switched subjects and thought I'd give a nod to Tim Burton's "Mars Attacks".

Roz, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

I was on the Red Line this morning and saw this woman. I thought she had an interesting face at first. Then she started to seem familiar. Then, it hit me! She was a dead ringer for Roz from Monsters, Inc.. I think it's pretty uncanny.

Here's another mini painting. This one is of a Duro from the cantina scene in Star Wars. This piece will be part of my Oh No! Doom show in late June.

Jawas, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

Here's another mini Star Wars painting. This time, it's the Jawas. I like them because you think they're all cute and bumbling, but you'd better watch out when your back's turned.
